May 28, 2024, 6 pm, Museum Tinguely, Basel.

We cordially invite you to the book launch of Revolving Documents—Narrations of Beginnings, Recent Methods, and Cross-Mappings of Performance Art. The event will take place at Museum Tinguely Basel on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at 6 pm. Edited by Sabine Gebhardt Fink and our own Andrej Mirčev, the book features a chapter co-authored by Hanna B. Hölling, Jules Pelta Feldman, and Emilie Magnin, titled “Performance Conservation: A Condition Report, or a Para-Ethnography in Three Acts.

Challenging dominant histories of the genre, this book focuses on translocal and transcultural connections, aiming to generate and expand knowledge on the various narratives of the beginnings of performance art. It brings together essays from leading international scholars, curators, archivists, and artists who explore the strategies and epistemic/historiographic tools used by museums, galleries, historians, theorists, and artists to recollect, reconstruct, and represent the genealogies of this significant artistic and activist practice.

Written from diverse perspectives and offering multiple methodological frameworks, this publication is the result of an intensive dialogue between authors from various cultural and academic contexts, including Switzerland, Slovakia, the USA, Israel, Germany, former Yugoslavia, the UK, and Italy. Contributors include Andrea Bátorová, Sabine Gebhardt Fink, Séverine Fromaigeat, Oriana Fox, Stephen Greer, Dror Harari, Cláudia Madeira, Fernando Matos Oliveira, Andrej Mirčev, Dorothea Rust, and Sandra Sykora. Special contributions are provided by Hanna B. Hölling, Jules Pelta Feldman, Emilie Magnin, Andrea Saemann, Chris Regn, Muda Mathis, and Margarit von Büren. The book also features drawings by Lena Eriksson.
